For those of us who rarely indulge!

The holiday season is upon us, which means it’s time for holiday dinners. We at Sherry’s Villa figured those who rarely drink wine, but intend to, could bush up on some basic facts.

Pinot Grigio

Pronunciation: (Pee-know-gree-joe)
Type: White Wine

Flavor Notes: Citrus and Pear
Food Parings: Light seafood, chicken (white meat), light desserts, light creamy pastas

Pinot Noir

Pronunciation (Pee-know-nu-ar)
Type: Red Wine
Flavor Notes: cherry, strawberry, raspberry, cinnamon, caraway, peppermint
Food Pairings: Pork, Lamb, Goose, ham, red meats, creamy tomato pastas


Pronunciation (Shar-dun-nay)
Type: White Burgundy Wine (yes, you read that right!)
Flavor Notes: apple, pear, peach, apricot, citrus, tropical fruits
Food Pairings: Salmon, trout, crab, chicken


Pronunciation (Rose-Zay)
Type: (This wine is diverse and has it’s own identity)
Flavor Notes: berries, watermelon, banana, grapefruit, tropical, herbal
Food Pairings: cheesy french or Italian dishes, prosciutto, quiches, cheeses with cured meats

Cabernet Sauvignon

Pronunciation: (cab-ber-nay sov-vin-yon)
Type: Red Wine
Flavor Notes: black currant, blackberry, anise, black cherry
Food Parings: Beef, chicken, cheese (low-moisture), venison, duck
